Pro-Gest invents waterproof cardboard plateau trays
A solution suitable for the transport of moist fruit and vegetables which can replace the equivalent plastic substrates. The Consortium of Radicchio Rosso of Treviso IGP is among the first to adopt this environmentally friendly alternative to traditional materials.
"Green & waterproof plateau trays" were born, as an alternative to plastic, and made from recycled cardboard that is again fully recyclable, and also able to meet the technical requirements for the transport of moist products through a thin polyester film or layer that can withstand moisture. Pro-Gest has designed the trays (boxes with which you can transport fruit and vegetables) made entirely from recycled cardboard, treated and aesthetically customizable with the graphics of the customers choosing, made suitable for food use, and in particular the transport of moist items by the presence of a thin polyester film (a thickness of about 10-12 microns). This layer is so thin that it to allows the trays to be 100% recyclable.
Among the first to believe in this solution is the Consortium of PGI Radicchio Rosso of Treviso, their main product is recognized worldwide for excellence with Made in Italy. The 2011-2012 season will be characterized by the use of these trays.
"We make cardboard trays for 3 years - says Bruno Zago, for Pro-Gest – Trevikart, one of the groups companies, which is based in Ospedaletto Istrana (Treviso). But recently the need has arisen to create a suitable support to contain moist products. We have created this formula with the polyester film and tested for resistance to moisture. And it works. From this point forward it will open a new road to help all those fruit and vegetable producers who care about the environment and the environmental sustainability of every stage of their production process, including the packaging".
In April 2011 Pro-Gest invested in several forming machines to use for some of the production across Italy, allowing for an assembly stage that generates major savings on the transport of the trays because they can then be sent in dramatically less space.
"For 2012 - Zago continues - we have several large orders from big Italian chains and look forward to more new developments in our product, always with a view of reducing use of plastic and increasing reuse of raw materials from recycling".
